Find your missing piece ... 'Game of Threadles'

Maybe it isn't your training or your dog's understanding. Maybe it's something else?

What is the missing piece to your Game of Threadles?

If you want to add Threadles to your agility toolbox but are not sure where to start, or how to explore where the missing piece of your threadle training might be, then this could be the course for you.

Step by Step Lessons from Flatwork Foundations to Tunnel/Jump Application and Sequencing

Often the missing piece in our threadle skill training is a foundation skill not fully developed. We may have skipped over a key lesson or not spent enough time on a foundation behaviour. Sometimes we're in a hurry and think it's 'good enough'. Learning to 'Go Slow to Go Fast' is a big lesson! I was reminded of this very thing just recently as I started teaching the seesaw with my young dog.

Jump / slice commitment, value for the wing, send and go along with comfort around handler opposing motion are all foundation skills that can come back to haunt us when we begin to expand our skill toolkit.

For example, teaching independent directional turn cues to your dog seems simple enough. However, if you want confident and independent verbal tight and loose turns on course, then your dog needs to have a complete and full understanding of the verbal cues independent of where you may be. It's important to take them on the journey of understanding. Threadles are no different.

In-depth video demonstrations supported with written lessons will guide you through each stage of learning.

There are 3 x 4-week modules that will cover the progression of teaching threadles.

  • Module 1: Foundation Skills
  • Module 2: Proofing
  • Module 3: Sequencing

Starting with flatwork foundations and progressing through to jump/tunnel application and sequencing, each lesson ensures you have mastered a concept before moving to the next stage.

These modules will contain the key exercises to progress you and your dogs understanding of each threadle type, without the feeling of being overwhelmed with content and drills.

Phased release and start date of each module as follows:

  • Module 1: 1st May 2023
  • Module 2: 5th June 2023
  • Module 3: 10th July 2023

**Each Module has one catch-up week before it closes for feedback**

COVERING ALL THE BASICS FOR GREAT THREADLES

Ideal for those training threadles for the very first time

Your Missing Piece

A great threadle is built on a great foundation of multiple skills.

We look at:

  • Obstacle Commitment
  • Lateral handler position
  • Opposing motion sensitivity
  • Value for the wing
  • Proofing handler motion

Foundation Skills

Go Slow to Go Fast!

  • Foundation training for the threadle slice, threadle wrap, and threadle rear cross
  • Perfect for young dogs or your experienced teammate who may not have this skill set yet
  • Three lessons for each threadle type in this module
  • Includes key foundation skills that form the basis of a great threadle

Proofing Exercises

Often the forgotten step in our training.

You'll get:

  • Simple, easy to set up proofing drills that proof all threadle types
  • Drills to test your dogs understanding of each of the threadles before you move to the next phase of sequencing
  • One of the most important steps as we continue to build value and understanding

Sequencing

Get ring ready!

  • Put those trained threadles all together!
  • Add in some dog speed and handler motion and really test the understanding!
  • Find your gaps!
  • Close your gaps!
  • Have fun and be ready for the ring!

Modules and lessons suitable for handlers just learning about threadles for the first time, through to more experienced handlers with young dogs who you want to introduce this skill set to.

  • Modules need to be taken in sequence if you are just starting the threadle journey as the course is progressive.
  • Module 1 covers key foundation skills important to developing great threadles.
  • If you have trained threadles and just want to proof or add into sequencing, then choose the modules appropriate to your needs
  • Suitable for dogs aged 12 months or older.
  • Minimum equipment required is 3-5 wing jumps, a tunnel and a cone or barrel.
  • Sequencing will be short segments to test threadle understanding with increased handler motion and dog speed
  • Each module runs for 4 weeks with a 1 week break before the next module will start. This allows you some time to continue working through exercises and gives a 'real life' time buffer. The last thing I want is for this process to be rushed.

Module 1 starts Monday 1st May 2023
